Police are responding to a capturing that interrupted a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, the Lake County Sheriff wrote on Twitter.

People fled the parade route in panic as gunshots have been heard, abandoning chairs and coolers.

The city of Highland Park — a city about 25 miles north of Chicago with roughly 30,000 residents — has canceled its Fourth of July occasions and requested folks to keep away from the downtown space.

Mayor Nancy Rotering said in a tweet that the Fourth Fest celebration, scheduled to begin at midday, has been canceled.
